Random name picker – draw a name fairly
‘Who wants to go first?’ is often met with silence, and pointing at someone yourself quickly feels unfair. The Name Picker is a random name picker that draws one name by chance, so nobody feels passed over or singled out.
Use the names of everyone who has joined or type them in yourself, and optionally pick only from those who haven’t had a turn yet. Handy for choosing the next speaker, sharing out turns during a debrief, or drawing the winner of a raffle.
Make every lesson, training or presentation interactive.
Your group takes part live on their own phones, without an app and without an account.
What you can set
- Type in names yourself; they’re remembered on this device for next time.
- Or add everyone who joins with a code in one click.
- An animation that builds suspense, or quick pick for an instant name.
- After a pick, draw again from everyone, or only from those not yet picked.
- Remove individual names from the list, or clear the whole list at once.
- Participants see the chosen name big on their own phone.
Frequently asked questions
What is a name picker?
A random name picker chooses a name from a list at random. You enter the names or let participants join with a code, and with one click a name appears. Because chance decides, it’s fair: nobody is favoured and nobody keeps getting skipped.
How do you use it in the classroom?
Who reads the next paragraph aloud? With the (Name) Picker chance decides, so nobody feels favoured or skipped. Type in your class names once: they’re remembered on this device. Then pick only from those who haven’t had a turn yet, so everyone takes part once before you start over with the whole list.
How do you use it in a meeting or training?
Let chance decide who answers the first question, who takes notes or who demonstrates the next exercise. Participants join with a code and you add them to the list in one click, without retyping a single name. The chosen name appears big on the screen and on the phone of everyone taking part, so there’s no doubt whose turn it is.
How do you use it at a party or event?
Who wins the prize, who goes to the buffet first, who starts the game? Put the guests’ names into the (Name) Picker and let the animation build the suspense before the winner appears. In a hurry? Turn on quick pick and the name appears immediately. Then draw again, with or without the earlier winners.
Is the (Name) Picker free?
Yes. You open it straight in your browser, with no account and nothing to install. With a subscription you save it in a presentation, together with the other tools you use, so everything is ready to go next time.
Can I pick everyone only once?
Yes. After a pick you decide whether to draw again from everyone, or only from those who haven’t had a turn. The button shows how many names have already been picked. Once everyone has had a turn, you simply start again with the whole list.
Do I have to enter the names every time?
No. The names you type are remembered on the same device, even when you close the browser. If participants join with a code, you add them to the list in one click. You can also combine typed names and participants in one list.
Can I skip the animation?
Yes. Turn on quick pick and the chosen name appears on the screen immediately. Handy if you pick someone often in a row. If you leave the animation on, it builds up the suspense for a moment before the name appears: fun for a prize or a game.
Do participants see who was picked?
Yes. Anyone who joins with a code via livecloud.online/join sees the chosen name big on their own phone. Until a name is drawn, it tells them to wait a moment. That way even those at the back or joining remotely know straight away whose turn it is.
