Visual timer for the classroom – free

When time is visible, you don’t have to keep track of it. The Analog Timer is a visual timer that shows on a clock face how much time is left – easy to follow even for those who can’t read a clock yet – so everyone can set their own pace.

Set it by clicking on the clock face and choose an end signal, such as a bell or a school bell. Put it on the board during a class assignment, for the break in a training, or to keep speaking time in a meeting.

Frequently asked questions

What is a time timer?

A time timer shows the remaining time as a coloured area on a clock face that keeps getting smaller. So you can see how much time is left without reading any numbers. That’s why this visual timer works well for young children, for children who benefit from clear structure, and for anyone who wants calm instead of a ticking countdown.

How do you use it in the classroom?

Set ten minutes on the clock face for an independent task. Students watch the coloured area shrink and know how much time they have left without asking. Even children who can’t tell the time yet can see at a glance whether it’s nearly over. That brings calm: nobody keeps asking how long it will be, and you don’t have to watch the clock.

How do you use it in a meeting or training?

Give every agenda item or speaker a fixed amount of time. Everyone can see the time running out, so you don’t have to interrupt anyone: speakers wrap up on their own when the coloured area is almost gone. For the break, set it to fifteen minutes so the whole room knows when you’ll start again and nobody comes back late.

How do you use it at home?

Use it for homework in twenty-minute blocks, as a screen-time timer for the kids, or in the kitchen. On a big screen, TV or tablet you can see how much time is left even from across the room. For children, a clock face suddenly makes a promise like ‘just a little longer’ concrete.

Is the online timer free?

Yes. You open the timer straight in your browser, with no account and nothing to install. With a subscription you save it in a presentation, together with the other tools you use in your lesson or training, so everything is ready to go next time.

How long can I set the timer for?

Up to 60 minutes, exactly one full turn of the clock face. If you want to count down for longer, use the Digital timer: it also counts in hours.

Can I use it on an interactive whiteboard?

Yes. The timer works in any browser, so also on an interactive whiteboard, a large screen or a projector. Make it full screen so it can be seen from anywhere in the room.

What sound do you hear when time is up?

You choose: a bell, a school bell or a school buzzer. If you don’t want any sound, for example during a test or in a quiet room, you turn the end sound off.

Can participants see the timer on their phone?

Yes. Participants join with a code via livecloud.online/join and see the timer live on their own screen. Handy if not everyone can see the big screen well, or if part of the group is joining remotely.
